Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the task by summarizing the main features of the chart. You have identified the key trends, such as the preference for instant coffee over fresh coffee across all cities and the variations in cafe visitation. However, the report lacks precision in data reporting. For instance, stating 'near 35%' or 'mid range of 40-45%' is somewhat vague, and the comparison between cities could be more structured. To improve, ensure you clearly distinguish between the three categories (Cafe, Fresh, Instant) and provide more accurate numerical comparisons to support your observations, rather than relying on general descriptions.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical. There are issues with punctuation, such as the comma splice in 'Fresh coffee remains less favourite of all cities, In Brisbane and Adelaide...', which disrupts the logical progression. While you use some cohesive devices, they are used repetitively. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that your paragraphing is used to group related ideas more effectively, such as separating the cafe visitation data from the coffee type preferences.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but there are frequent spelling errors (e.g., 'givenn', 'prefered', 'cofffee', 'resdinatls') and some awkward phrasing. You rely on a limited range of words to describe trends, such as 'favourite' and 'range'. To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary related to data description, such as 'proportion', 'percentage', 'consumption', or 'preference'. Additionally, ensure you proofread for basic spelling mistakes, as these errors can distract the reader and limit your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('Number of People... were highest'), missing articles ('visited cafe'), and incorrect verb forms ('people taken fresh coffee'). While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focus on mastering basic sentence construction, particularly the use of articles and consistent verb tenses, before attempting more complex structures.
