Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response attempts to address the prompt but fails to provide a clear overview or a logical summary of the main features. While it mentions several cities and percentages, the data is presented in a fragmented and repetitive manner. Key comparisons are missing, and the information is not organized into a coherent report. The response lacks a clear structure, such as an introduction or a summary paragraph, which is essential for Task 1. Many figures are presented without context or clear grouping, making it difficult for the reader to grasp the main trends across the five cities. To improve, you should group data logically (e.g., by category or by city) and ensure you highlight the most significant differences and similarities.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The response lacks paragraphing and logical progression. It is written as a single, run-on block of text with very few cohesive devices. The use of 'and' to connect almost every clause makes the writing repetitive and difficult to follow. There is no clear structure to guide the reader through the data. Referencing is often unclear, such as 'the other city' or 'the same weeks', which does not effectively link back to the data provided. To improve, you must organize your response into distinct paragraphs (introduction, overview, and body paragraphs) and use a wider variety of linking words and phrases to connect your ideas more fluidly.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.5
The vocabulary is very limited and repetitive. You frequently use basic terms like 'city', 'people', and 'percentage' without variation. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'top high city' instead of 'the city with the highest percentage' or 'drinking habit city'. The lack of precise terminology to describe data (e.g., 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', 'accounted for') makes the report sound informal and imprecise. To improve, focus on learning topic-specific vocabulary related to data description and try to avoid repeating the same words in close proximity. Using synonyms and more sophisticated descriptors will significantly enhance your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are significant issues with sentence structure, including run-on sentences and a lack of proper punctuation. Many sentences lack a clear subject or verb, such as 'the percentage of five citiy residents to consume the coffee or the tea'. Additionally, there are consistent errors with articles ('the coffee', 'the tea'), pluralization ('citiy'), and verb forms ('people went to the cafe... is 64%'). The range of structures is very limited, consisting mostly of simple, poorly constructed sentences. To improve, focus on basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and the correct use of articles.
