Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 3.0
The response is significantly under the 150-word minimum requirement, which severely limits the ability to address the task. While the introduction attempts to paraphrase the prompt, the overview is vague and the body paragraph is incomplete, cutting off mid-sentence. Key features of the data are not reported, and there is no meaningful comparison between the five cities. Because the response is unfinished and lacks the necessary detail to summarize the chart, it fails to meet the basic requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The response lacks a clear structure due to its incomplete nature. While there is an attempt at paragraphing, the abrupt ending prevents any logical progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are minimal, and the connection between the introduction and the body is weak. The text does not demonstrate the ability to organize information into a coherent summary, as the analysis is abandoned before it can be developed.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary is limited and contains several errors, such as 'te a' (tea), 'differents' (different), and 'categories of coffee eating habits'. The phrasing is often unnatural, such as 'coffee eating habits' when referring to drinking habits. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to demonstrate the precision required for an Academic Task 1 response. The errors in spelling and word choice are noticeable and detract from the overall clarity of the writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('There are three of categories') and incorrect sentence structure ('The values given at percentages'). The attempt to use complex sentences is hampered by these errors and the incomplete nature of the text. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with capitalization (e.g., 'Melborne', 'brisbane'). The limited length makes it difficult to assess a full range of structures, but the existing sentences show a lack of control.
