Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the data, including the five cities and the three categories of habits. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial and lacks a clear, cohesive overview. While you identified the most and least popular activities, the comparison between cities is inconsistent. For instance, you mention Sydney and Melbourne in detail but provide less comparative analysis for the other cities. To improve, ensure you group data points logically to highlight trends rather than listing figures city-by-city, which can make the report feel like a collection of isolated facts rather than a synthesized summary.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as 'More specially' and 'Furthermore, by Adelaide residents'. These transitions do not always logically connect the sentences. Additionally, the referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult to follow the progression of ideas. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'In contrast', 'Conversely', 'Regarding') and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that guides the reader through the data.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. You rely heavily on repetitive phrasing such as 'went to a cafe' and 'bought instant coffee'. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'largest citizens prepare went to cafe' and 'both hobby figures seen a almost same'. These errors occasionally make the meaning slightly opaque. To improve, try to use more precise verbs and nouns related to data description, such as 'frequented', 'purchased', 'proportion', and 'preference', while ensuring correct grammatical collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that impede flow. Issues include incorrect verb forms ('individuals consume' instead of 'individuals consuming'), missing articles, and awkward sentence construction ('which around 61% where bought'). Subject-verb agreement and preposition usage are also inconsistent. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors prevents the text from reaching a higher band. Focus on proofreading for basic sentence structure and ensuring that clauses are connected correctly with appropriate relative pronouns.
