Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to address the prompt by summarizing the data, but it struggles with accuracy and clarity. While you identify the three categories (fresh coffee, instant coffee, and cafe visits), the descriptions of the trends are often confusing or factually inconsistent with the provided data. For instance, you mention that the percentage of buying fresh coffee 'increases' in Sydney and Melbourne, but without a time-series chart, describing these as trends rather than static comparisons is problematic. Furthermore, the summary lacks a clear overview of the most significant features, such as the consistently higher popularity of cafe visits across all cities. To improve, focus on accurately reporting the data points and highlighting the most striking differences between the cities.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the logical progression is hindered by repetitive and mechanical transitions, such as 'At first', 'Secondly', and 'After that'. These markers do not always reflect the logical relationship between the ideas. Additionally, the referencing is sometimes unclear; for example, the phrase 'which is between 60% to 65%' is used to describe all five cities simultaneously, which makes the information difficult to follow. Improving the use of cohesive devices and ensuring that each sentence flows naturally from the previous one will help improve the overall coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive. You frequently use the word 'ratio' and 'percentage' to describe the data, and the phrasing 'went to a cafe' is grammatically awkward in this context. There is also a lack of variety in the verbs used to describe the data, relying heavily on 'increases' or 'decreases'. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate a wider range of vocabulary related to data description, such as 'proportion', 'figure', 'surpassed', 'accounted for', or 'remained stable'. Additionally, ensure that you use collocations correctly, such as 'visiting a cafe' rather than 'went to a cafe'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include incorrect verb forms (e.g., 'people coffee and tea buying', 'percentage of went to a cafe'), missing articles, and awkward sentence structures. The sentence 'The percentage of buying fresh coffee in Sydney increases to 47% which was highest one' lacks necessary articles and correct relative clauses. While you attempt some complex sentences, they are often marred by errors. Focusing on basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and the correct use of articles will significantly improve the accuracy and readability of your work.
