Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to cover the data, but it fails to provide a clear overview or effectively group the information. The writing is repetitive and lacks a logical structure, making it difficult to identify the main trends or significant comparisons. The student confuses the timeframes (mentioning 'last five years' and 'last four weeks' interchangeably), which misrepresents the data provided in the chart. While some figures are cited, the lack of a clear summary and the inclusion of inaccurate interpretations of the data mean the task is only partially addressed. To improve, focus on identifying the most significant features and grouping them logically rather than listing every data point in a stream-of-consciousness style.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response lacks paragraphing, which is essential for organizing information in an IELTS Task 1 report. The flow of ideas is hindered by the absence of clear cohesive devices; the text relies heavily on repetitive conjunctions like 'but' and 'and'. There is no clear progression of ideas, and the lack of sentence boundaries makes the text difficult to follow. The referencing is often unclear, as the writer jumps between cities and categories without a logical sequence. To improve, use clear paragraph breaks to separate the overview from the detailed data and employ a wider range of linking words to connect ideas more effectively.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. Phrases such as 'mostly people wants to visit' and 'minimum people wants' are used repeatedly, which indicates a lack of lexical variety. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'people of Australian citizens' and 'wants to went a cafe'. The student struggles to use precise terminology to describe trends or data points, relying on basic, informal language. To reach a higher band, you should learn to use more precise verbs and nouns related to data description, such as 'proportion', 'percentage', 'fluctuate', and 'account for', while avoiding repetitive phrasing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'people wants'), incorrect verb forms (e.g., 'wants to went'), and missing articles. The sentence structures are largely simple or run-on, with very few attempts at complex sentences. Punctuation is almost entirely absent, which makes the text difficult to parse. The lack of control over basic grammar, such as tense consistency and pluralization, significantly impacts the clarity of the report. Focusing on basic sentence construction, correct verb tenses, and proper punctuation would be the most effective way to improve your score in this criterion.
