Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to summarize the data but fails to provide a clear, accurate overview. While it identifies some trends, the information is often confusing or factually inconsistent with the provided chart. For instance, the claim that 'all five cities have higher number of visit to cafe... as compared to adelaide' is vague and lacks specific data points. The report lacks a clear selection of key features; instead, it jumps between categories (fresh coffee, instant coffee, cafe visits) without a logical structure. To improve, ensure you clearly group data and provide specific percentages or figures to support your observations, rather than making generalized, inaccurate statements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is disjointed. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'overall', 'broadly', and 'moreover', but they are often used mechanically or inappropriately, failing to create a smooth flow between sentences. For example, the transition 'Moving towards the rest of the data' does not effectively link the previous paragraph to the new information. Referencing is also problematic; it is often unclear which city or category the writer is referring to, which forces the reader to work too hard to follow the logic. Improved paragraphing and more precise linking words are needed.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and contains several spelling errors, such as 'melborne' (Melbourne), 'habort' (Hobart), 'calliborated' (calibrated), and 'habbits' (habits). The range of vocabulary is insufficient to describe the data with precision. Phrases like 'bit less' and 'much higher' are informal and lack the academic tone required for Task 1. There is also a lack of variety in reporting verbs and nouns related to data analysis. To reach a higher band, you should focus on using more precise terminology for describing trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'a significant proportion'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('the population... went to a cafe', 'sydney has higher number of individual who brought'), article usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are awkward, such as 'The bar chart illustrates that the result of the inspection about individual purchasing coffee'. While there is an attempt at complex sentences, they are often poorly constructed or contain errors. To improve, focus on basic sentence construction, correct verb tenses, and ensuring that subjects and verbs agree. Proofreading for common errors like missing articles and pluralization is essential.
