Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the task achievement score. While you attempted to identify some main features, the summary is incomplete and lacks a clear, accurate overview of the data. Several statements are confusing or factually unclear, such as the claim that there are 'five differant nations in Austraila' (these are cities, not nations). Furthermore, the data reporting is inconsistent and lacks the necessary detail to fully address the prompt. To improve, ensure you cover all categories provided in the chart and provide a clear, logical summary of the trends rather than fragmented observations.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks a logical flow. While there is an attempt at paragraphing, the ideas within the paragraphs are disjointed and often confusing. Cohesive devices are either missing or used incorrectly, making it difficult for the reader to follow the progression of information. For example, the transition 'Looking the bar graph' is grammatically incorrect and does not effectively introduce the analysis. The final paragraph is particularly fragmented, with incomplete sentences that break the coherence of the report. You need to focus on using linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'in contrast', 'consequently') to connect your ideas more effectively.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. There are frequent spelling errors, such as 'differant', 'Austraila', 'maxinum', 'melboume', 'differance', 'freash', and 'similer'. These errors, combined with incorrect word choices (e.g., 'nations' instead of 'cities'), hinder the clarity of your writing. You rely on basic vocabulary and struggle to use precise terminology to describe the data. To reach a higher band, you should work on spelling accuracy and expanding your range of vocabulary to include more academic terms related to describing charts and statistics, such as 'proportion', 'fluctuation', and 'significant'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are many missing verbs (e.g., 'the highest percentage... in Melboume' instead of 'is in Melbourne') and incorrect sentence structures. Punctuation is also inconsistent, and the use of 'more then' instead of 'more than' is a recurring error. The attempt at complex sentences is largely unsuccessful due to these persistent errors. You should focus on mastering basic sentence construction—ensuring every sentence has a clear subject and a verb—before attempting more complex grammatical structures. Proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement is essential.
