Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the main features and making relevant comparisons across the five cities. You successfully highlighted the overall trends, such as the popularity of cafes compared to fresh coffee. However, the report could be improved by ensuring the data points are more precise. For example, stating 'somewhere around 50%' is vague when the chart provides specific figures. To reach a higher band, ensure that all key features are supported by accurate data from the chart, and avoid generalizations that might misrepresent the specific findings shown in the visual aid.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a summary. You use cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'On the other hand', and 'While making comparison' to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive. For instance, the use of 'While' at the start of multiple sentences in the final paragraph creates a repetitive structure. To improve, vary your linking words and ensure that the progression between sentences is smoother. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the internal flow within paragraphs could be more sophisticated to achieve a higher score.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'significant proportion', 'dominant', and 'accounted for'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. For example, 'constituted of' is grammatically incorrect; 'consisted of' or 'accounted for' would be better. Additionally, 'decided on taking the instant ones' is slightly unnatural in this context. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations related to data reporting, such as 'the highest percentage was recorded in' or 'the figures for X were significantly lower'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is generally effective. However, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. Examples include 'Melbourne and Hobart constituted of around 63%' (incorrect preposition) and 'Adelaide on the bottom of the list' (missing verb). There are also minor issues with article usage and pluralization, such as 'in Austrailia' (spelling) and 'the dominant habit of people comprised of going to the cafe'. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher band score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and correct preposition usage.
