Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all parts of the task and provides a clear overview of the main trends. You successfully identified the most popular activity (visiting a cafe) and the least popular (fresh coffee). The data is generally well-selected, though there are some inaccuracies in reporting the figures; for example, you state cafe visitors in Melbourne and Hobart were between 60-65%, but the chart shows Melbourne at over 60% and Hobart at over 60%, which is acceptable, but your description of Sydney at 62% is slightly imprecise given the visual data. To reach a higher band, ensure that data points are cited with greater precision and that comparisons are more consistently integrated throughout the body paragraphs.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. You use cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'While', 'Moreover', and 'On the other hand' to link ideas. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical or incorrectly punctuated, such as 'Moreover. Brisbane, and Adelaide...' where the period creates a sentence fragment. Additionally, the use of 'While making a comparison' at the start of the second body paragraph is a bit redundant. Improving the flow between sentences and ensuring punctuation is accurate will help elevate the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'prevalent', 'accounted for', and 'recorded the figures'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'second common preference' (should be 'second most common') and 'least preference' (should be 'least preferred'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the sophistication and precision required for higher bands. Incorporating more varied synonyms for 'buying' or 'purchasing' and using more precise collocations would improve your score in this criterion.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'between people who went to a cafe... people who purchased... and people who bought' which is a slightly awkward construction for an introduction. Punctuation errors, such as the misplaced period after 'Moreover' and the comma splice '...respectively, On the other hand', detract from the overall accuracy. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on sentence boundary control and subject-verb agreement will help improve your accuracy.
