The chart below shows the results of a survey about people’s coffee and tea buying and drinking habits in five Australian cities.

Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The bar chart illustrates the result of a survey about coffee and tea buying and drinking habits in five different cities in Australia.

Overall, going to a cafe was the most popular activity in most cities, except in Adelaide. In contrast, buying fresh coffee was generally the least popular choice among residents.

In Melbourne and Hobart, the percentage of people who went to a cafe was the highest, at over 60% Sydney was also high at about 61%. On the other hand , buying fresh coffee was less popular. Melbourne and Sydney had the highest figures for fresh coffee at around 43% and 44%. Brisbane and Adelaide had the lowest percentages for this habit, at about 34%.

For instant coffee, Brisbane and Hobart had the highest percentages, with over 50% of people buying it. Sydney, Melbourne, and Adelaide, the figures were sightly lower but remained between 45% and 50%. Interetingly, in Adelaide, buying instant coffee (50%) was more popular than going to a cafe (49%).
