Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the data, such as identifying the highest and lowest categories across cities. However, the overview is problematic; the second sentence is confusing and contains inaccurate information regarding the 'last 4 years,' which is not supported by the prompt. While the report includes data for all five cities, the comparisons are often unclear or mathematically imprecise (e.g., 'bought a half of instant coffee'). The summary lacks a clear, accurate synthesis of the trends, which prevents it from reaching a higher band. To improve, focus on identifying clear trends and ensuring that the data cited is accurate and easy to follow.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader navigate the information. However, the logical progression is hindered by awkward phrasing and repetitive sentence structures. Cohesive devices are used, but they are often mechanical or misused, such as the abrupt transition 'while nearly 55% people who was purchased'. The referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult to track which city or category is being discussed. To improve, use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each sentence flows naturally from the previous one, avoiding repetitive sentence starters.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it is quite repetitive and lacks precision. There are several instances of awkward word choice, such as 'individual's purchasing... habits' and 'all nations' (when referring to cities). The range of vocabulary is limited, and there are minor errors in word formation and collocation that occasionally make the text feel unnatural. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise terminology related to data description, such as 'proportion,' 'percentage,' or 'figures,' and avoid repeating the same verbs throughout the response.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'people who was purchased'), missing articles, and incorrect preposition usage. Some sentences are poorly constructed, making the meaning difficult to decipher, such as 'people bought fresh coffee which was the lowest in last 4 year all nations.' While the errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be distracting. Focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring that complex sentences are structured correctly.
