The chart below shows the results of a survey about people’s coffee and tea buying and drinking habits in five Australian cities.

Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The bar chart illustrates the percentages of residents in five Australian cities who bought fresh coffee, bought instant coffee, or went to a café for coffee or tea during the previous four weeks.

Overall, visiting a café was the most popular activity in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Hobart, whereas Adelaide had almost equal figures for café visits and instant coffee purchases. In contrast, fresh coffee was the least popular choice in all five cities.

Looking first at café visits, Melbourne recorded the highest proportion, at approximately 64%, followed by Hobart at 63% and Sydney at around 61%. Brisbane had a considerably lower figure of about 56%, while Adelaide had the lowest percentage, at exactly 50%.

The figures for instant coffee purchases were generally lower than those for café visits. Hobart had the highest proportion, at roughly 55%, followed by Brisbane at 53% and Adelaide at 50%. Melbourne and Sydney recorded around 48% and 46%, respectively.

Finally, fresh coffee purchases were relatively uncommon. Sydney had the highest figure, at approximately 44%, while Melbourne stood at 43%. The percentages were lower in Hobart, at about 39%, and were lowest in Brisbane and Adelaide, at approximately 35% each.
