Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the chart, such as the high proportion of café visits and the lower interest in fresh coffee. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial and lacks precision. For instance, the statement that Sydney and Melbourne are 'approximately same' is vague, and the description of data for Brisbane and Adelaide is confusingly phrased. While the main trends are identified, the comparison between cities is not fully developed, and some data points are misreported or unclear. To reach a higher band, you should focus on selecting key data points to support your generalisations rather than making broad, imprecise claims about the cities.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the flow of ideas is often disjointed. The use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or misused, such as 'in the matter of pattrens' or 'not only this', which do not always logically connect the sentences. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult to track which city or category is being discussed. Improving the transition between sentences and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision required for a higher band. There are several spelling errors, such as 'surwey' and 'restraunts', and some awkward word choices like 'terms' to refer to categories and 'responsible for' when describing percentages. The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, relying on basic descriptors. To improve, you should aim to use more precise terminology related to data reporting, such as 'proportion', 'percentage', 'fluctuated', or 'remained stable', and ensure that your spelling is accurate throughout the response.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('residents of Brisbane and Adelaide is following') and awkward phrasing ('the percentage of people... not more than 55%'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of commas and sentence fragments. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from achieving a higher score. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would be highly beneficial.
