Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the task by summarizing the provided data, but it lacks a clear overview of the main trends. While it attempts to report figures for the five cities, the information is presented as a list of data points rather than a comparative analysis. The description of the categories is somewhat confusing, and the report fails to highlight significant differences or similarities effectively. To improve, you should group the data logically and provide a clear summary of the most striking features, such as which city consistently ranked highest or lowest across the categories, rather than simply listing percentages for each city in isolation.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The use of cohesive devices is mechanical and sometimes inaccurate, such as 'The secondly' and 'Thirdly is time'. The referencing is often unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between the cities. The transition between sentences is abrupt, and the lack of sophisticated linking words hinders the flow of information. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of cohesive devices (e.g., 'In contrast', 'Similarly', 'Regarding') to connect your ideas more naturally and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, unified focus.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying heavily on basic terms like 'bought', 'drinking', and 'lines'. There are several instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'Brisbane is on below number' and 'the high rate is 62%'. The word choice lacks the precision required for an Academic Task 1 report. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate more varied and precise vocabulary related to data description, such as 'proportion', 'fluctuated', 'peaked', or 'remained constant'. Additionally, ensure that you use appropriate collocations when describing statistical trends.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'the chart describe', 'the five lines that shows'), article usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are fragmented or run-on, such as 'This this the list of fresh coffee that can be bought by people in recent four weeks.' The range of structures is limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring correct verb forms, and practicing the use of complex sentences to convey relationships between data points more accurately.
