Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the main features and making relevant comparisons across the five cities. You successfully highlighted the highest and lowest figures for each category. However, the report is somewhat list-like, focusing heavily on individual data points rather than synthesising the information into broader trends. To reach a higher band, ensure that comparisons are more analytical; for example, grouping cities with similar patterns rather than listing them sequentially. The overview is present but could be more distinct to clearly summarise the most significant differences between the cities.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is logically organised with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a concluding summary. Cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'Meanwhile', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel repetitive. The use of referencing is generally clear, though the sentence structure in the second paragraph is slightly cluttered, which affects the overall progression of ideas. Improving the variety of linking phrases and ensuring smoother transitions between data points would enhance the coherence of the report.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'illustrates', 'survey', 'ratio', and 'recorded' appropriately. There are some instances of slightly unnatural word choices, such as 'humans who bought' instead of 'individuals' or 'residents', and 'decided to stay in' which is a bit informal for an academic report. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey meaning clearly, there is limited use of less common lexical items or sophisticated collocations that would elevate the response to a higher band. Focus on using more precise terminology related to data description.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as missing articles ('in past four weeks', 'went to cafe'), punctuation issues (e.g., '63%. and'), and inconsistent subject-verb agreement. Some sentences are slightly awkward, such as 'Melbourne's percentage was high for people who went to cafe... which is about 63%'. These errors do not impede communication, but they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Greater attention to articles and sentence punctuation would significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
