Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to address the task but fails to provide a clear overview or accurately report the data. The description of the trends is confusing and often contradicts the visual information provided in the chart. For instance, the claim that there is a 'rapid rise' in coffee and tea consumption in the last four weeks is not supported by the static nature of the chart, which shows data for a specific period rather than a trend over time. Furthermore, the comparison between cities is vague and lacks specific data points, making it difficult for the reader to understand the key features of the survey results. To improve, you must focus on identifying the highest and lowest values and making clear, data-driven comparisons between the five cities.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response lacks logical organization and progression. It is presented as a single block of text, which makes it difficult to follow. There is a lack of effective cohesive devices; sentences are often linked in a mechanical or repetitive way, such as the frequent use of 'individuals who'. The referencing is also unclear, particularly when discussing the different categories of coffee and tea. To improve, you should organize your report into distinct paragraphs: an introduction, an overview of the main trends, and two body paragraphs detailing specific comparisons. Using transition words like 'in contrast', 'conversely', or 'meanwhile' would significantly improve the flow of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. Phrases like 'individuals who' and 'percentage of' are used excessively. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'out come on individuals coffee' and 'slightest increase', which do not accurately convey the intended meaning. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to describe the data with precision. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate more varied and precise terminology related to data description, such as 'proportion', 'majority', 'significant', 'marginal', and 'fluctuate'. Avoid repeating the same sentence structures and try to use more sophisticated synonyms for common words.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'the percentage is comparatively low than', and incorrect preposition usage. Sentence structures are largely simple, and attempts at more complex sentences are often marred by errors in punctuation and word order. For example, the sentence 'Individuals who bought instant coffee their percentage In Hobart...' is poorly constructed and lacks clarity. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence structures and ensuring that your subjects and verbs agree. Proofreading for common errors like missing articles and incorrect word forms will also help increase your score.
