Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to summarize the data but fails to provide a clear overview of the main trends. While it mentions some specific figures, the selection of information is inconsistent and lacks a logical structure. The analysis is often confusing, such as the claim that Sydney residents are more likely to buy fresh coffee than 'other countries' (when the chart shows cities). Furthermore, the description of the data is inaccurate in places, and the comparison between cities is poorly developed. To improve, you must identify the most significant features—such as the clear preference for cafe visits in Melbourne versus the higher instant coffee consumption in Hobart—and present them clearly without factual errors.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the logical progression of ideas is weak. The introduction is repetitive and does not clearly state what the chart represents. Cohesive devices are used in a mechanical and sometimes incorrect way, such as 'The overall, approximately 64%...' and 'If we see , these kind of people.' The referencing is often unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between the five cities. To improve, focus on using transition signals (e.g., 'In contrast,' 'Similarly,' 'Furthermore') to link your sentences and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often inaccurate. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'brought fresh coffee' (instead of 'bought') and 'Both cities ratio are same estimate' (instead of 'The figures for both cities are estimated to be the same'). The range of vocabulary is insufficient to describe trends effectively, relying on basic phrasing. To reach a higher band, you should learn specific collocations for describing data, such as 'a significant proportion,' 'a downward trend,' or 'the most popular choice,' and ensure you distinguish between verbs and nouns correctly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('This provided chart illustrate'), incorrect verb forms ('people... using and buying'), and missing articles. Sentence structures are mostly simple, and attempts at more complex sentences often result in errors, such as 'This is the highest percent than all cities given in the chart.' Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary spaces and misplaced commas. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring subject-verb agreement, and proofreading for common errors like tense consistency and article usage.
