Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to summarize the data but fails to provide a clear overview or highlight the main trends effectively. The information is presented in a repetitive, list-like format for each city rather than synthesizing the data to make meaningful comparisons. While the prompt asks for a summary of features and comparisons, the response merely lists percentages for each category without analyzing the relative differences between cities or categories. The final paragraph is particularly vague, stating that Brisbane and Adelaide are 'the same' without providing specific data points to support this claim. To improve, you should group information by category or trend rather than city-by-city, and ensure a clear overview is provided in the introduction.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks logical progression and effective paragraphing. Each paragraph follows a repetitive structure ('the first city is...', 'the second city is...'), which makes the writing feel mechanical. There is a lack of cohesive devices to link ideas; instead, the text relies heavily on 'and' and 'the second thing is', which creates a disjointed flow. The use of referencing is weak, and the transition between the detailed city descriptions and the final summary is abrupt. To improve, use a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'In contrast', 'Furthermore', 'Similarly') and structure your paragraphs by thematic trends rather than just listing cities.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is very limited and repetitive. Phrases such as 'the first thing is', 'the second thing is', and 'the last thing is' are used throughout the text, indicating a lack of range. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'buying thing' instead of 'category' or 'purchasing habit'. The phrasing 'most high thing' is unnatural and imprecise. To reach a higher band, you need to use more varied and precise vocabulary related to data description, such as 'proportion', 'category', 'exceeded', 'remained consistent', or 'a significant majority'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'the other 2 cities is'), incorrect article usage, and run-on sentences. Many sentences lack proper punctuation, making them difficult to read. The structure is almost entirely simple sentences, with very few attempts at complex grammatical forms. For example, 'In the first city in Australia is Melbourne individuals are of most highest buying' is grammatically incoherent. To improve, focus on basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and the correct use of prepositions and articles.
