Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the data, such as the general trend of cafe visits being the most popular activity. However, the reporting of data is often imprecise or confusing. For example, the statement that cafe visits 'increased sharply by 60%' in Sydney is a misinterpretation of the data, as the chart shows a static comparison, not a temporal change. Furthermore, some data points are presented in a way that makes it difficult to verify the comparison, such as the collective figures for Brisbane. To improve, focus on accurately describing the data points provided rather than inferring trends that are not present in the chart.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. Phrases like 'At the first glance' and 'Moving further' are used, but the logical flow between sentences is frequently interrupted by awkward phrasing and unclear referencing. For instance, the transition between the general overview and the specific city data is abrupt. Improving the variety and accuracy of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, unified focus would significantly enhance the coherence of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several instances of awkward word choices, such as 'the masses' and 'lowest contribution people gave to bought fresh coffee'. The spelling errors, such as 'caffe', 'Futhermare', and 'purclased', are noticeable and detract from the overall quality. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise terminology for describing data (e.g., 'proportion', 'percentage', 'figure') and ensure accurate spelling of common terms related to the task.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'it can be clearly seem', 'there were negligible difference was witnessed', and 'city Hobart there was dramatically increased'. These errors in subject-verb agreement, sentence construction, and tense usage are persistent throughout the text. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would be highly beneficial.
