Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

You have successfully identified the main features of the chart, including the overall trend that cafe visits were more popular than buying coffee for home use. You provided data for all five cities and made relevant comparisons. However, the report lacks a clear, concise overview paragraph; the summary is embedded within the introduction. To improve, ensure you clearly separate your overview from the introduction. Additionally, some data points are slightly imprecise (e.g., 'just above to 60%'). While you covered the main trends, the report would benefit from more precise data reporting and a more structured approach to grouping the information to highlight the comparisons more effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The response is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally inaccurate. For example, 'at the last' is not a standard transition for concluding a paragraph. There are also issues with punctuation and capitalization, such as 'Overall,Is clear' and 'sydney, melbourne'. These errors make the flow of ideas feel disjointed at times. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider range of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'in contrast', 'consequently') and ensure that your paragraphing is used to group related ideas more logically.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to describe the trends in the chart. You use terms like 'percentage', 'citizens', and 'survey' correctly. However, the range is limited and there is some repetition of phrases like 'amount of people' and 'in all these five cities'. There are also minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'result of peoples survey' instead of 'results of a survey'. To improve, try to vary your vocabulary by using synonyms and more precise terms related to data analysis, such as 'proportion', 'figure', or 'significant'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that occasionally hinder readability. Common issues include missing articles (e.g., 'in sydney'), incorrect preposition usage (e.g., 'above to 60%'), and capitalization errors (e.g., 'australian', 'sydney'). Subject-verb agreement is also inconsistent, such as 'the percentage... was... while in melbourne and hobart was'. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy, particularly with articles, capitalization of proper nouns, and ensuring that your sentence subjects and verbs agree correctly.
