Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the score. While you have identified some key features, such as the leading cities for cafe visits and fresh coffee consumption, the report is incomplete. The analysis stops abruptly mid-sentence ('Brisbane is on the top'), meaning you have not fully reported on all categories or made all necessary comparisons. To improve, ensure you cover all data points provided in the chart and provide a complete summary. The lack of a full overview and the unfinished nature of the response prevent a higher score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into an introduction and two body paragraphs, which is a good start. However, the progression of ideas is hindered by the incomplete nature of the text. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Overall' and 'In terms of', but the flow is disrupted by grammatical errors and the sudden ending. Paragraphing is present, but the final paragraph is underdeveloped and lacks a concluding thought. To improve, ensure that each paragraph has a clear focus and that ideas are linked smoothly throughout the entire response.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it is somewhat repetitive and lacks precision. Phrases like 'habits of bought instant coffee' and 'is lead by' show issues with word choice and collocation. You have attempted to use topic-specific vocabulary, such as 'illustrates' and 'survey', which is positive. However, the range is limited, and there are errors in word form (e.g., 'habit of went to a cafe' should be 'habit of going to a cafe'). Expanding your range of synonyms and focusing on correct word forms will help improve your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('the city... are in Melbourne') and incorrect verb forms ('habit of went to a cafe'). The sentence structures are relatively simple, and there is a lack of complex sentence variety. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly in the final sentence. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring that verbs match their subjects, and practicing the use of gerunds after prepositions or nouns.
