Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the main features and making comparisons across the five cities. You successfully highlighted the trends for fresh coffee, instant coffee, and cafe visits. However, the report lacks a clear overview of the data as a whole, and some descriptions are slightly repetitive. While you have selected relevant data, the analysis could be improved by grouping the cities more effectively to highlight the most significant differences rather than listing figures for each city sequentially. To reach a higher band, ensure the overview clearly synthesizes the main trends rather than just repeating the data points.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use cohesive devices such as 'In addition', 'However', and 'whereas' to link sentences. However, some of the transitions are slightly mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the final paragraph where the phrasing 'people went to coffee or tea' is ambiguous. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the flow between sentences could be smoother to avoid a list-like quality. Overall, the structure is coherent, but the use of cohesive devices needs to be more natural and precise to achieve a higher score.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'proportion', 'constituted', and 'substantially'. However, there are several spelling errors ('constiuted', 'consictantly', 'Brisbarne', 'noticeable changed') and awkward collocations ('madeup the average share', 'maintained slightly a same level'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing. To improve, focus on using more accurate terminology for describing trends and ensure that your spelling is consistent. Expanding your range of synonyms for 'increase' and 'decrease' would also help to avoid repetition.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt to use complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with verb forms and prepositions (e.g., 'individuals went to cafe for coffee had the largest proportion', 'comprised to 45%'). There are also issues with article usage and subject-verb agreement. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the main points, they are frequent enough to affect the overall fluency. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
