Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the chart, such as the highest and lowest figures for different categories. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial and lacks a clear overview or summary of the most significant trends. While you have selected data points, the comparison between cities is inconsistent. For example, you mention Sydney and Melbourne for fresh coffee but fail to provide a comprehensive comparison across all five cities for each category. To reach a higher band, ensure you group data logically and provide a clear, concise summary of the overall trends rather than just listing percentages city by city.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the flow between sentences is often mechanical and lacks sophisticated cohesive devices. Some transitions, such as 'To begin with' and 'Talking about', are used, but the logical progression within paragraphs is weak. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the connection between the data points is not always smooth. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it is quite repetitive and lacks precision. There are several spelling errors, such as 'Adelalde', 'Melborne', 'mast', and 'istant', which detract from the overall quality. You rely on basic phrasing like 'almost same amount' and 'gradual decrease'. To improve, you should aim to use a wider range of vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'accounted for', and ensure that you proofread your work to eliminate basic spelling mistakes that could have been avoided.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Issues include missing articles ('43% population'), incorrect preposition usage, and subject-verb agreement errors (e.g., 'Brisbane and Adelaide shows'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing after commas. While the meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors in basic grammar and punctuation limit the score. Focusing on sentence construction and ensuring subject-verb agreement will help you achieve a higher level of accuracy.
