Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the main features and making relevant comparisons across the five cities. You successfully highlighted the trends for fresh coffee, instant coffee, and cafe visits. However, the overview is slightly confusing; for instance, stating that cafe visits had the 'largest proportion' in Melbourne and Hobart while comparing them to Brisbane and Adelaide is a bit vague. To improve, ensure your overview clearly identifies the most significant trends or contrasts without needing to list every city. The data reporting is generally accurate, but ensure that your comparisons are precise to avoid ambiguity.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific category of the survey. You use cohesive devices such as 'In addition,' 'However,' and 'whereas' to link ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the second paragraph where the comparison between cities becomes difficult to follow. The use of punctuation, particularly commas before 'which,' is inconsistent and sometimes disrupts the flow of the sentences. Improving the variety of cohesive devices and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would help elevate the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'proportion,' 'constituted,' 'consistently,' and 'substantially.' There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'maintained a same level' (should be 'maintained the same level') and 'which was noticeably changed' (which is vague). While you attempt to use less common vocabulary, the phrasing is occasionally awkward. To reach a higher band, focus on more precise collocations and ensure that your descriptive language accurately reflects the data trends without being repetitive.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. However, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that occasionally impede the reader's flow. For example, there are unnecessary commas before 'which' clauses, and some sentences are run-on or lack proper articles (e.g., 'more than the city of Brisbane'). Subject-verb agreement and preposition usage also need attention, such as 'remained same in Adelaide' instead of 'remained the same in Adelaide.' Focusing on sentence boundary control and refining your use of relative clauses will significantly improve your accuracy.
