Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the chart, including the three categories of coffee/tea habits across the five cities. You successfully identify the highest and lowest points for each category. However, the report lacks precision in data reporting. For instance, you state 'majority of the Australians was purchased fresh coffee in Sydney around 44%', which is an inaccurate use of 'majority' for a figure under 50%. Additionally, some comparisons are slightly repetitive, and the final paragraph repeats information about Brisbane and Adelaide that was already mentioned in the overview. To improve, ensure that data points are cited accurately and avoid redundant sentences that do not add new analytical value.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs. You use some cohesive devices like 'Overall', 'Furthermore', and 'Meanwhile' to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally disrupted by mechanical phrasing and repetitive sentence structures. For example, the transition between the second and third paragraphs is somewhat abrupt. The referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the phrase 'the high intake of instant coffee in last four weeks was in Horbart which around 54%'. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a distinct focus would help the progression of ideas feel more natural and less mechanical.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to describe the trends using terms like 'purchasing', 'intake', and 'residents'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'people visited to a cafe' (should be 'people who visited a cafe') and 'very few amount of fersh coffee' (should be 'a small amount of fresh coffee'). There are also spelling errors like 'Austrailans', 'Horbart', and 'fersh'. To reach a higher band, you should focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring accurate spelling of key terms and geographical names.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the clarity of your writing. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'majority of the Australians was purchased') and incorrect verb forms (e.g., 'majority of residents was went to a cafe'). The use of articles is also inconsistent throughout the text. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from being considered error-free. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would significantly improve the accuracy of your response.
