Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to summarize the data but fails to clearly identify the main features or provide accurate comparisons. The description of the data is often vague, such as referring to 'growth' when the chart shows static percentages, and the interpretation of the figures is frequently inaccurate (e.g., claiming Sydney's range is 45% to 60% when the data points vary significantly). The response lacks a clear overview of the trends, and the selection of data points is not representative of the key information provided in the chart. To improve, focus on identifying the highest and lowest values across all categories and cities rather than describing individual fluctuations in a non-analytical way.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. While some cohesive devices are used, such as 'To commence with' and 'Furthermore', they are often used mechanically or inappropriately. The referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly when discussing the cities and categories. The flow between sentences is disjointed, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison of the five cities. Improving the use of linking words to show contrast and comparison, rather than just listing observations, would significantly enhance the coherence of the report.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, often relying on basic terms like 'growth' and 'figures'. There are several instances of word-choice errors, such as 'busying it' instead of 'buying it' and 'bringing' instead of 'buying'. The phrasing is often unnatural, which hinders the precision of the report. To reach a higher band, you should use more precise terminology related to data description, such as 'proportion', 'percentage', 'trend', and 'varied', and ensure that the vocabulary is contextually appropriate for an academic report.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('The graph illustrate', 'figures experiences'), incorrect article usage, and awkward sentence structures ('in five distinct cities which is, Sydney...'). While there is an attempt at complex sentences, they are often faulty. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with commas. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring that sentence structures are grammatically sound before attempting more complex constructions.
