Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
You have successfully identified the main features of the data, such as the highest and lowest values for coffee and cafe visits. However, the response lacks a clear overview that synthesizes the trends effectively. Some data points are slightly inaccurate or confusingly presented, such as the mention of 'previous last four weeks' which is repetitive and imprecise. To improve, ensure you clearly distinguish between the three categories (fresh coffee, instant coffee, and cafe visits) and avoid listing figures without sufficient comparative analysis. The report covers all parts of the task, but the development of the comparison between cities could be more structured to help the reader follow the data trends more easily.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader navigate the information. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or awkward. For example, the transition 'While, the percentage...' is grammatically incorrect and disrupts the flow. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the final paragraph where the connection between the cities and the data points feels disjointed. To achieve a higher band, focus on using a wider range of linking words more naturally and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus that progresses logically from the previous one.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You have an adequate range of vocabulary to describe the data, using terms like 'purchasing,' 'residents,' and 'accounted.' However, there are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'the highest fresh coffee was purchased' (you mean the highest percentage of people who bought fresh coffee) and 'a very small residents went.' These errors occasionally make the meaning slightly unclear. To improve, focus on collocations—for example, 'a small percentage of residents' rather than 'a very small residents'—and try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary to describe trends and proportions.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that detract from the clarity of the writing. Issues include incorrect verb forms ('The illustration give information'), missing articles, and awkward sentence fragments ('While, the percentage...'). There is also a recurring issue with redundant phrasing, such as 'previous last four weeks.' While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of prepositions to ensure your sentences are grammatically sound.
