Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the main features and making relevant comparisons across the five cities. You successfully highlighted the trend that cafe visits were the most popular habit, while fresh coffee purchases were generally the least popular. However, the analysis is somewhat descriptive and lacks a more sophisticated synthesis of the data. For instance, while you mention the percentages, you could have more effectively grouped the cities to highlight similarities or contrasts, such as noting that Melbourne consistently leads in cafe culture. The overview is present but could be more clearly defined as a separate paragraph to better highlight the main trends.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is logically organized into paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs focusing on specific habits. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Overall', 'In addition', and 'In the rest of', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally repetitive. For example, the phrase 'In rest of 3 cities' is a bit clunky. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would elevate the flow. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the main trends from the specific data points.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'proportion', 'category', and 'variation'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'buying of fresh coffee' (should be 'the purchase of fresh coffee') and 'maximun in each cities' (should be 'maximum in each city'). The repetition of 'habits' and 'percentages' limits the sophistication of the response. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise academic collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing when describing data trends.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement and pluralization, such as 'Adelaide show' (should be 'shows') and 'each cities' (should be 'each city'). Additionally, there are minor punctuation and article errors throughout the text. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for basic agreement and article usage would significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
