Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response provides a basic overview of the data, but it fails to fully address the task requirements. While it identifies some trends, the analysis is often inaccurate or lacks the necessary detail to support the claims. For example, the statement that 'an average 40 percent of people' buy fresh coffee is a vague generalization that does not reflect the specific data points for each city. Furthermore, the report lacks a clear, data-driven comparison between the five cities, and some interpretations of the chart appear to be misread. To improve, you must focus on reporting specific figures from the graph and ensuring that comparisons are precise rather than relying on broad, unsupported generalizations.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the logical progression of ideas is often weak. The use of cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'Moreover' is somewhat mechanical and does not always connect ideas effectively. In some instances, the transition between sentences is abrupt, making the flow feel disjointed. For example, the jump from discussing fresh coffee to instant coffee and then to tea in Adelaide lacks a smooth thematic link. Improving the use of referencing and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, unified focus would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task but remains quite limited and repetitive. You rely on basic terms like 'people', 'buy', and 'percentage'. There are also some issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'metro towns' (which is not standard for Australian cities) and 'insant coffee' (a spelling error). To achieve a higher band score, you should aim to incorporate more precise vocabulary related to data description, such as 'proportion', 'consumption', 'fluctuated', or 'predominant'. Expanding your range of synonyms and ensuring accurate spelling will help you convey information more professionally and clearly.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow of reading. Common issues include missing articles (e.g., 'in last one month'), incorrect preposition usage, and subject-verb agreement errors (e.g., 'Adelaide is the only city out of all five city'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary spaces before commas. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for articles and pluralization would be highly beneficial.
