Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response covers all requirements of the task. You have successfully identified the main features and made relevant comparisons between the five cities. The overview is clear and highlights the most significant trends, such as the popularity of cafe visits versus the lower frequency of fresh coffee purchases. Data is used effectively to support the points made, although there are minor inaccuracies in the data reporting (e.g., stating Sydney and Hobart were around 60% and 62% for cafe visits, while the chart shows them slightly differently). Overall, the response is well-structured and addresses the prompt comprehensively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The response is logically organized, with a clear introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs that group information by activity. Cohesive devices such as 'regarding', 'in contrast', and 'overall' are used effectively to guide the reader. Paragraphing is appropriate, and there is a clear progression of ideas throughout the text. While the flow is generally smooth, some transitions between sentences could be more varied to enhance the sophistication of the response. The referencing is clear, and the information is presented in a way that is easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey information clearly. Phrases like 'engaged in', 'proportion', and 'consistently low' are used appropriately. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there is a reliance on basic descriptive terms. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate more precise collocations and a wider variety of synonyms to describe trends and data points. There are no significant spelling errors, and the vocabulary used is accurate for the context of the task.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the grammar is generally accurate, there are consistent issues with capitalization, such as 'australian', 'melbourne', 'sydney', and 'brisbane'. These are persistent errors that affect the professional presentation of the writing. There are also minor punctuation errors, such as the unnecessary period after '60%' in the third paragraph. Despite these slips, the meaning is never obscured, and the grammatical control is sufficient for the task.
