Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the task by identifying the main features and making comparisons. However, there are significant inaccuracies in the data reporting. For instance, you state that Sydney residents bought fresh coffee at 43%, whereas the chart shows 61% for cafe visits. Furthermore, you refer to Australian cities as 'countries', which is a factual error that impacts the clarity of the report. While you attempt to cover all categories, the lack of precision in data extraction and the misinterpretation of the chart's labels prevent a higher score. To improve, ensure you carefully cross-reference the data points with the correct categories and labels provided in the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical flow is hindered by awkward phrasing and repetitive sentence structures. While you use some cohesive devices like 'Overall' and 'Moving ahead', the transitions between sentences are often mechanical or unclear. For example, the transition 'While the Melbourne highest value...' is grammatically disjointed. The paragraphing is present but does not effectively group the data to highlight clear trends or comparisons. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive, relying heavily on basic terms like 'bought', 'drinking', and 'value'. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'drinking habitats' (likely meant 'habits') and 'calibrated in percentage'. The misuse of 'countries' instead of 'cities' is a notable error. While the meaning is generally conveyed, the range of vocabulary is not sufficient to demonstrate flexibility or precision. You should aim to incorporate more varied reporting verbs and nouns related to data analysis, such as 'proportion', 'fluctuated', or 'surveyed'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. There are issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'highest value recorded by people went to cafe', and missing articles throughout the text. Sentence structures are mostly simple, and attempts at complex sentences often result in errors, such as 'While the Melbourne highest value for those people who went to the cafe approximately 63%'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary spaces before commas. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like missing prepositions and incorrect verb tenses.
