Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers the main features of the data, such as the general preference for cafe visits across all cities. However, the analysis is somewhat inconsistent. For instance, the claim that 'fresh coffee' buying was the 'lowest in number' in Sydney is not fully supported by a clear comparison with other cities. Additionally, the report lacks a clear overview of the trends, as the summary provided in the second paragraph is slightly inaccurate regarding the data. While the key features are identified, the lack of precision in reporting the figures and the failure to make consistent comparisons across all five cities limit the score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. There is a clear introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally awkward, such as the transition 'Moreover, in Brisbane and Adelaide...'. The referencing is sometimes unclear, and the flow between sentences could be improved to create a more logical progression of ideas. Paragraphing is present, but the internal structure of the paragraphs could be more cohesive to better link the comparisons between the cities.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision required for a higher band. There are several spelling errors, such as 'ilustrates', 'regaring', 'habbits', 'diffrent', 'intrested', 'whearas', 'increse', and 'insant'. These errors are frequent and occasionally distracting. While the student attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'survey result' and 'upward trend', the range is limited, and the repetition of basic verbs and structures prevents the demonstration of a more sophisticated lexical range.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('residents... goes', 'buyers has also shown'), missing articles ('in last four weeks'), and punctuation errors (inconsistent capitalization and spacing). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are persistent and occur in both simple and more complex attempts at sentence construction. A greater focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and sentence structure is necessary to improve the score.
