Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the chart, including comparisons between the five cities and the three categories of coffee/tea consumption. However, the reporting of data is often confusing and inaccurate. For instance, the figures provided for 'cafe coffee or tea' (62%, 64%, 63%, 51%, 49%) are presented in a way that makes it difficult to follow the trends. The summary of 'fresh coffee' is also somewhat muddled, and the overall conclusion is vague and does not clearly synthesize the key findings. While the task is addressed, the lack of clarity in data presentation and the failure to highlight the most significant differences effectively limit the score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is often disjointed. The use of cohesive devices is mechanical and sometimes inappropriate, such as 'In chart also express' or 'by staying with low share value in graph'. Referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult for the reader to track which city or category is being discussed. The transition between the body paragraphs and the conclusion is abrupt, and the lack of logical flow between sentences hinders the overall coherence of the report.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying heavily on basic terms like 'shares', 'value', and 'high/small'. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'went coffee or tea' instead of 'purchased coffee or tea', and 'roundly' used incorrectly to mean 'approximately'. The phrasing is often unnatural, which occasionally impedes the reader's understanding. To improve, you should focus on using more precise terminology for describing data trends, such as 'proportion', 'percentage', 'fluctuated', or 'remained stable'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that affect readability. There are persistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'Brisbane and Adelaide has', 'city Sydney has a medium shares'), incorrect preposition usage, and awkward sentence structures. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary capitalization and misplaced commas. While there is an attempt to use complex sentences, these are often poorly constructed and contain errors that cause some difficulty for the reader. A focus on basic sentence structure and proofreading for subject-verb agreement is essential.
