Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

The response effectively covers all parts of the task. You have successfully identified the main features and provided relevant comparisons across the five cities. The overview clearly highlights the general trends, such as the popularity of cafe visits versus the lower consumption of fresh coffee. You have used data to support your points throughout the report, ensuring that the information is accurate and well-selected. To reach a higher band, ensure that you consistently highlight the most significant differences or similarities, such as noting that Sydney and Melbourne share similar trends in fresh coffee consumption, which adds depth to your analysis.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The response is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph focuses on a specific category (cafe visits, instant coffee, fresh coffee), which makes the information easy to follow. You have used a variety of cohesive devices effectively, such as 'while', 'followed by', and 'respectively', to link your sentences and clauses. The paragraphing is appropriate and contributes to the overall clarity of the report. The flow is smooth, and the use of referencing is accurate throughout the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 7.0

You have used a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey information precisely. Phrases like 'recorded the highest proportion', 'substantially lower', and 'illustrates the percentages' are appropriate for an academic report. There is a good level of control over word choice, and you have avoided repetitive phrasing. While the vocabulary is accurate and fits the context well, incorporating a few more sophisticated collocations or topic-specific synonyms could elevate the response further. Overall, the lexical range is strong and supports clear communication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.5

The response demonstrates a good command of grammatical structures. You have successfully used a mix of simple and complex sentences, such as the use of subordinate clauses starting with 'while' or 'followed by'. Punctuation is generally accurate, and the sentence structures are varied. There are very few errors, and those that exist do not impede communication. The control over tense and subject-verb agreement is consistent throughout the report. To achieve a higher score, you could experiment with more varied complex sentence structures to demonstrate even greater flexibility.
