Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response effectively addresses the task by summarizing the main features of the survey data. You have successfully identified the key trends, such as the popularity of cafe visits compared to buying fresh coffee. The overview is clear and provides a good summary of the data. You have included data points for all five cities and made relevant comparisons between the categories. To reach a higher band, ensure that you highlight the most significant differences or similarities more explicitly in the body paragraphs rather than just listing the figures for each city. Overall, the response is well-focused and meets all requirements of the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized, with a clear introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs that group the information by city. The progression of ideas is smooth, and you have used cohesive devices such as 'while,' 'compared with,' and 'respectively' to link information effectively. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different cities. To improve further, you could vary your cohesive devices slightly more to avoid repetitive structures, but the current flow is clear and easy to follow throughout the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You have used a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the information accurately. Terms like 'proportion,' 'residents,' and 'recorded' are used correctly in context. There is an attempt to use less common vocabulary, though some phrasing could be more sophisticated. For instance, 'most activity' is grammatically incorrect; it should be 'most popular activity.' While the vocabulary is adequate for the task, incorporating more precise collocations or varied synonyms for 'bought' or 'figures' would enhance the lexical range and help you achieve a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The response demonstrates a good mix of simple and complex sentence structures. Most sentences are error-free, and the punctuation is generally accurate. There are minor slips, such as the capitalization error in 'Illustrates' and the phrasing 'was the most activity,' which should be 'was the most popular activity.' However, these errors are infrequent and do not impede communication. You have shown good control over comparative structures, which is essential for this type of task. Continued practice with complex sentence variety will help solidify your control over more advanced grammatical forms.
