Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the score. Because the text is incomplete and cuts off mid-sentence, the overview is underdeveloped, and the data reporting is fragmented. While you attempt to identify some trends, such as the popularity of cafes and the percentages for Sydney and Brisbane, the lack of completion means you have not fully addressed the prompt or provided a comprehensive summary of the main features. To improve, ensure you complete the analysis of all categories and cities, and provide a clear, concise overview of the main trends observed in the chart.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response shows some attempt at logical organization, such as using an introductory sentence and starting a second paragraph for specific data. However, the progression is interrupted by the incomplete nature of the text. Cohesive devices like 'Whereas' and 'Moreover' are used, but their effectiveness is limited by the unfinished sentences and the abrupt ending. The paragraphing is present but insufficient due to the lack of content. To improve, focus on structuring your response with a clear introduction, a distinct overview, and separate paragraphs for specific comparisons, ensuring that each sentence is fully formed and logically connected to the next.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, with terms like 'accounted for', 'declined marginally', and 'dramatically' showing an attempt to describe data trends. However, there are errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'people people', 'inn', and 'showna'. The range of vocabulary is limited by the brevity of the response. To achieve a higher band, focus on using more precise academic collocations and ensure that your spelling and word forms are accurate. Expanding your range of descriptive verbs and adverbs will also help you better articulate the changes shown in the chart.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that affect clarity. Examples include 'people of Sydney accounted for buying highest of at 44%' and 'Adelaide also showna'. These errors, combined with the incomplete sentences, make the text difficult to follow. There is a lack of control over basic sentence construction and punctuation. To improve, focus on mastering subject-verb agreement and the correct use of prepositions when describing data. Proofreading for basic sentence structure and ensuring every sentence has a clear subject and verb will significantly improve your accuracy.
