Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers the main features of the chart, but the analysis is inconsistent and lacks precision. While you identify some trends, the data reporting is often inaccurate or confusing. For example, stating that Brisbane and Adelaide remain the same is not supported by the visual data, and the claim that 'fresh coffee had to experience lowest rate' is vague. To improve, ensure you accurately transcribe the figures from the chart and group them logically rather than listing them city by city in a way that obscures the comparison. The overview is present but lacks a clear summary of the most significant differences between the five cities.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or misused, such as 'In the end' to introduce data points, which does not fit the context. Referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly when you mention 'the similar advantage' without defining what that advantage is. Paragraphing is attempted, but the transition between ideas is abrupt. To improve, focus on using transition signals that logically connect your comparisons, such as 'In contrast to Melbourne, Hobart showed...' rather than starting new sentences with disjointed phrases.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The range of vocabulary is limited and repetitive. You rely on basic terms like 'percentage rate' and 'buying' throughout the text. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'the similar advantage was observed' and 'fresh coffee had to experience lowest rate,' which sound unnatural. Some phrasing is imprecise, such as 'ratio of individuals' when referring to percentages. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more varied vocabulary related to data description, such as 'proportion,' 'figure,' 'trend,' or 'fluctuation,' and ensure your collocations are accurate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'the percentage rate of citizens were higher') and incorrect verb forms (e.g., 'people prefer to went cafes'). Sentence structures are mostly simple, and attempts at complex sentences often contain errors, such as 'While, Adelaide is sill same.' Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of commas. To improve, focus on basic subject-verb agreement and ensure that you use the correct infinitive forms after verbs like 'prefer to'.
