Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to address the task by summarizing the survey data; however, the information is presented in a fragmented and often confusing manner. While you identify some trends, the descriptions of the data are frequently inaccurate or unclear. For instance, the statement 'data values are almost double of fresh drinkers' is vague and lacks the necessary precision required for an Academic Task 1 report. Furthermore, the overview is not well-integrated, and the comparisons between cities are difficult to follow due to poor data selection. To improve, focus on clearly identifying the most significant trends and supporting them with accurate, specific figures from the chart rather than attempting to describe every detail in a disjointed way.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or misused, such as 'Leaping further' and 'Zooming into the details,' which do not effectively guide the reader through the data. Referencing is frequently unclear; for example, it is often ambiguous which city or category you are referring to in the later paragraphs. The flow between sentences is disjointed, making it difficult to follow the comparison of habits across the five cities. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, unified focus would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The range of vocabulary is limited and often used inaccurately. Phrases like 'rendered pictorial outlines' are overly complex and unnatural in this context. There are several instances of awkward word choices and collocations, such as 'drinks went to cafe and brought substantially' and 'other buyers figure at approximately 50%.' These errors occasionally impede the reader's understanding of the data. To reach a higher band, you should focus on using more precise terminology related to data description (e.g., 'proportion,' 'percentage,' 'significant,' 'marginal') and ensure that your word choices are appropriate for a formal report.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that affect clarity. There are issues with sentence structure, such as fragments ('The unit measures in percentage.') and run-on sentences. Subject-verb agreement is inconsistent, as seen in 'fresh coffee consumers are least' and 'other buyers figure at.' Additionally, the use of articles and prepositions is often incorrect, which makes the writing feel unpolished. While there is an attempt to use complex structures, they are often faulty and lead to confusion. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement and article usage would be a beneficial first step toward improvement.
