Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response successfully identifies the main features and makes relevant comparisons across the five cities. You have highlighted the general trends and noted the exception regarding Adelaide. However, the overview is slightly repetitive in its phrasing, and some data points could be more precisely described to fully satisfy the 'clear overview' requirement. For instance, while you mention the highest and lowest figures, the comparison between categories could be more integrated. Overall, you have covered all parts of the task well, providing a clear summary of the data provided in the chart.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. You use cohesive devices such as 'Regarding', 'However', and 'whereas' to link ideas. However, there are some minor issues with cohesion, such as the slightly awkward transition between the overview and the body paragraphs. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the progression of ideas is generally clear. To reach a higher band, ensure that referencing is more precise and that the flow between sentences is smoother, avoiding repetitive sentence structures.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'proportion', 'exceeded', and 'marginally'. However, there are several instances of inaccurate word choice and collocation, such as 'tedency' (spelling error: tendency), 'brought' instead of 'bought', and 'fewer percentage' (should be 'a smaller percentage'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing. To improve, focus on using more varied and accurate collocations related to data description.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'The largest proportion of citizens who bought fresh coffee were in Sydney, at approximately 43%'. There are several grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('The percentage of people brought instant coffee were') and incorrect verb forms ('people went to cafes' instead of 'people who went to cafes'). While these errors are noticeable, they rarely impede the reader's understanding. Increasing the frequency of error-free complex sentences will help improve your score in this criterion.
