The chart below shows the results of a survey about people’s coffee and tea buying and drinking habits in five Australian cities.

Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

This chart illustrates the percentages of residents living in five different Australian cities who bought fresh coffee, went to cafe for coffee or tea drinking during the four previous weeks.

Overall, visiting a cafe was the most popular activity in Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney , Adelaide and Hobart whereas buying instant coffee was the common choice of in Adelaide. Buying fresh coffee was the least popular in all five cities.

Melbourne recorded the highest proportion of people who visited cafe for drinking coffee , at approximately 64%, closely followed by Hobart at 63% and Sydney at 61%. Brisbane had a considerably lower figure at approximately 56% while Adelaide had a lowest percentage , at 50%.

The percentage of residents buying instant coffee in Sydney at 46%, Melbourne at 47%, Brisbane was relatively high at 53%, Adelaide at 50% and Hobart recorded the highest percentage at 54%.

In contrast, buying coffee was about 43% in Sydney and Melbourne, Hobart at 38%, Adelaide at 34% and Brisbane at 33%.
