Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response attempts to summarize the data, but it fails to clearly identify the main features or make effective comparisons. While it mentions some cities and percentages, the information is often inaccurate or confusingly presented. For example, the statement 'no large difference between a Melbourne and Hobart... such as 2%' is unclear, and the description of the data is fragmented. The response lacks a clear overview of the trends, and the selection of data points is somewhat random rather than analytical. To improve, you should focus on grouping the data logically (e.g., by category of coffee/tea) and highlighting the most significant differences and similarities between the cities rather than listing individual figures in isolation.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The response is difficult to follow due to poor sentence structure and a lack of logical progression. While there is an attempt at paragraphing, the ideas within the paragraphs are not well-connected. The use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or incorrect, such as the repetitive use of 'meanwhile' and 'the' before city names. Referencing is frequently unclear, making it hard for the reader to understand which data point relates to which city. To improve, focus on using transition words more naturally and ensuring that each sentence logically follows the previous one to build a coherent argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary is very limited and often inaccurate, which frequently impedes communication. There are many instances of awkward word choices, such as 'finalized of survey', 'lower bought of instant coffee', and 'lower rate of civilizations'. These errors suggest a lack of familiarity with basic collocations and word forms. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to describe the data precisely. To improve, you should practice using more academic vocabulary related to data description, such as 'proportion', 'percentage', 'significant', and 'trend', and focus on using correct word forms (e.g., 'purchased' instead of 'bought').
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that make the text difficult to read. There are persistent issues with article usage ('a Melbourne', 'the Sydney'), verb tenses ('have been bought', 'have a highest rate'), and sentence construction. Many sentences are grammatically incomplete or incorrectly structured, such as 'The lower bought of instant coffee in last 4 week which named as a Sydney.' The lack of control over basic grammar significantly hinders the clarity of the report. You should focus on mastering subject-verb agreement, correct article usage, and basic sentence structure before attempting more complex grammatical forms.
