Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response effectively addresses the task by summarizing the main features of the survey. You have successfully identified key trends and made relevant comparisons between the five cities. The overview is clear and highlights the most significant findings, such as the popularity of cafe visits versus the lower consumption of fresh coffee. However, there is a minor factual error in the overview: you mention 'all four cities' when there are five cities presented in the chart. Additionally, ensure that all data points are accurately transcribed; for instance, double-check the figures for Adelaide to ensure the comparison remains precise. Overall, the response is well-structured and covers all requirements of the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs that group information by category. The progression of ideas is easy to follow, and the use of cohesive devices such as 'In terms of', 'However', and 'Nevertheless' helps to link sentences and paragraphs effectively. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different aspects of the data. To reach a higher band, you could vary your cohesive devices further and ensure that referencing is always precise, as the transition between the overview and the body paragraphs could be slightly smoother to avoid minor repetition of information.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey information clearly. Phrases like 'accounts for', 'represents a great popularity', and 'the lowest figure for this category' are used effectively. There are some minor spelling errors, such as 'Austalian', 'categiories', 'Hobert' (Hobart), and 'Sydeny', which slightly detract from the professional tone. While the vocabulary is adequate for the task, incorporating more precise collocations or varied synonyms for 'highest' and 'lowest' would enhance the lexical quality. The current range is functional and allows for clear communication of the data trends.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. You show good control over sentence construction, and the errors present do not impede communication. There are some minor grammatical slips, such as 'going to cafes for drinks score the highest' (should be 'scores') and 'residents of in all cities'. Punctuation is generally handled well, although the use of a semicolon after 'namely' is incorrect; a colon would be more appropriate. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and proofreading for minor slips to ensure the majority of your sentences are error-free.
