Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the score. While you have identified some of the data, the summary is incomplete and lacks a clear overview of the main trends. The information provided is fragmented, and you have not adequately compared the data across the five cities or the three categories (Cafe, Fresh, Instant). To improve, you must ensure all parts of the prompt are addressed, provide a clear summary of the main features, and include sufficient detail to meet the length requirement. Currently, the response is too brief to fully develop the necessary comparisons.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organized into short paragraphs, but the logical progression of ideas is weak. The use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes inaccurate, such as the transition 'On the other hand,' which does not logically connect the preceding information about Melbourne to the data for Brisbane and Adelaide. The concluding paragraph is also abrupt and does not effectively synthesize the information presented. To improve, focus on using a wider range of linking words (e.g., 'in contrast,' 'similarly,' 'whereas') to create a smoother flow between sentences and paragraphs.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. There are several errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'elusidate' (elucidate), 'Hobert' (Hobart), and 'consuming coffee and tea habits.' The phrasing 'higher share to take the coffee' is unnatural. You rely on basic vocabulary to describe the data, which prevents you from demonstrating a wider range of lexical items. To improve, try to use more precise verbs and nouns related to data description, such as 'proportion,' 'fluctuated,' 'remained constant,' or 'accounted for.'

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'People's drink coffee'), incorrect preposition use, and awkward sentence structures (e.g., 'remain stay in stable conditions'). The range of structures is very limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and subject-verb agreement. Incorporating more complex structures, such as relative clauses or comparative forms, will also help improve your score. Ensure you proofread for basic errors in tense and word form.
