Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the main features and making relevant comparisons across the five cities. You successfully highlighted the general trend of cafe visits being the most popular activity. However, the analysis is slightly uneven; while you provide specific data for Melbourne and Hobart, the description for Adelaide is vague, stating 'almost a same number' without providing the actual figures from the chart. To reach a higher band, ensure that all key data points are clearly stated and compared consistently across all categories to provide a more comprehensive overview of the trends.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, body paragraphs for the data, and a concluding summary. The progression of ideas is generally clear. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'Moving Further' and 'in case of Brisbane'. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally imprecise, such as 'almost a same number', which lacks clarity. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that transitions between sentences are smoother would enhance the overall flow and coherence of the report.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'outcomes', 'abundantly clear', and 'insignificant difference'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'individuals' habit' instead of 'individuals' habits' and 'visiting a cafe' used as a noun phrase in a way that feels slightly unnatural. There is also some repetition of basic verbs like 'prefer' and 'buying'. To improve, try to incorporate more precise synonyms and ensure that collocations are used correctly to convey information more naturally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'large majority of people' (missing 'a'), 'in last 4 weeks' (missing 'the'), and 'almost a same number' (incorrect article usage). Some sentences are slightly clunky, such as 'Hobart noticed 38% of people', where the city is incorrectly personified as the subject. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on article usage and subject-verb agreement will significantly improve your accuracy.
