Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the chart, including the five cities and the three categories of habits. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial and contains inaccuracies. For instance, the claim that 'Melbourne and Hobart are standing at same highest rating' for cafes is not fully supported by the data, and the description of 'sailing ratio' (presumably sales/purchasing) is confusing. While the main trends are identified, the comparison between cities lacks precision, and the data interpretation is occasionally inconsistent. To reach a higher band, you should ensure that all figures are accurately reported and that comparisons are clearly linked to the specific data points provided in the chart.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. Phrases like 'In terms of visiting cafe' and 'While in terms of buying fresh instant coffee' are repetitive and do not always create smooth transitions between ideas. Furthermore, the referencing is sometimes unclear, such as 'as compare to other highiest rating cafe'. The progression of ideas is present but feels disjointed due to the limited range of linking words and occasional awkward phrasing. Improving the variety of transition signals and ensuring logical flow between sentences would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision required for a higher band. There are frequent spelling errors, such as 'Australine', 'Sdney', 'brisban', and 'commen'. Additionally, the word choice is often imprecise; for example, using 'sailing ratio' instead of 'purchasing habits' or 'percentage of people' causes confusion. The range of vocabulary is limited, relying on basic descriptors. To improve, you should focus on using more accurate terminology related to data description, such as 'proportion', 'percentage', 'trend', and 'consumption', while also paying closer attention to the correct spelling of proper nouns and common academic terms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but grammatical errors are frequent and occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('The chart compare'), missing articles ('going to Cafe'), and awkward sentence construction ('Melbourne and Hobart are standing at same highiest rating'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, and there are errors in word order and preposition usage. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on sentence structure, subject-verb agreement, and the correct use of articles will help improve your accuracy.
