Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to summarize the data but fails to provide a clear overview or accurately report the main features. The description of the data is confusing and often inaccurate, such as referring to 'man kinds' or 'the center graph' without clear context. The comparisons are poorly articulated, making it difficult for the reader to understand the trends across the five cities. Key information is missing or misrepresented, and the lack of a clear summary of the main trends means the task is only partially addressed. To improve, focus on identifying the highest and lowest values and grouping the cities or categories logically rather than listing figures in a disjointed manner.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks a logical flow. While there are paragraph breaks, the progression of ideas within and between paragraphs is disjointed. Cohesive devices are used incorrectly or are absent, leading to a fragmented text. For example, the transition 'Furthermore the second graph' does not effectively link to the previous paragraph. The referencing is often unclear, as the student refers to 'the center graph' or 'the last one' without defining what these represent. The overall structure is confusing, and the lack of clear signposting makes it difficult to follow the comparison of the data.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The range of vocabulary is limited and often inappropriate for an academic report. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'adverted' instead of 'indicated', 'man kinds' instead of 'categories', and 'bough' instead of 'bought'. The student struggles to use precise terminology to describe statistical data, relying on repetitive and vague phrasing like 'the ratio of the people'. These errors occasionally impede communication, as the reader must guess the intended meaning behind phrases like 'the center graph contained 47% of the ratio'. A wider range of descriptive verbs and nouns related to data analysis is needed.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that affect readability. There are issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'the ratio is steadily decreased', and incorrect sentence structures, such as 'the ratio of the individuals rose at 60 % who went to the cafe'. Punctuation is also problematic, with missing commas and inconsistent capitalization. The student attempts complex sentences, but these are often faulty and lack clarity. While the meaning is generally discernible, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevents the text from reaching a higher band. Focus on mastering simple sentence structures before attempting more complex ones.
