Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to summarize the data but fails to provide a clear overview or accurately report key features. While it mentions Melbourne and Hobart, the data interpretation is imprecise (e.g., 'raised the percentage' is vague). The report lacks a systematic comparison of the five cities, and the conclusion introduces subjective commentary ('taste buds', 'mindset') which is not supported by the data provided in the chart. To improve, you must focus on reporting the actual figures and identifying clear trends or outliers rather than speculating on the reasons behind the data.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The transition between sentences is often abrupt, and the use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes mechanical (e.g., 'To sum up'). Referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between the five cities. The final paragraph is particularly problematic as it shifts from reporting data to making general observations, which disrupts the coherence of the report as a data summary.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive. There are instances of imprecise word choice, such as 'raised the percentage' instead of 'a higher percentage' and 'getting fresh coffee' instead of 'purchasing fresh coffee'. Some phrasing is awkward, such as 'concludes the drinking habit'. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the basic topic, it lacks the precision and range required for a higher band score. You should aim to use more academic collocations related to data description.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('Instant coffee were bought', 'ratio... were comparitively low') and punctuation errors, such as missing spaces after commas and incorrect capitalization. The sentence structures are relatively simple, and attempts at more complex sentences often result in errors. To improve, focus on basic subject-verb agreement, correct pluralization, and ensuring that your sentences are punctuated correctly to maintain a professional tone.
