Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

The response effectively addresses all parts of the task. You have provided a clear overview of the main trends and selected relevant data points to support your summary. The comparison between cities is well-integrated, and the key features—such as the popularity of café visits versus the lower interest in fresh coffee—are clearly highlighted. You have successfully identified the main trends without getting bogged down in unnecessary detail. The information is accurate and well-presented, meeting the requirements for a Band 8 performance by covering all aspects of the prompt well.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The response is logically organized, with a clear introduction, an overview, and distinct body paragraphs for each category of coffee/tea consumption. The progression of ideas is smooth, and you have used cohesive devices such as 'Regarding', 'while', and 'followed by' effectively to link sentences and ideas. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different data sets, which helps the reader follow the analysis easily. The structure is coherent throughout, and the use of referencing is precise, ensuring that the comparison between the five cities remains clear and easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 7.0

You have demonstrated a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey information with precision. Phrases like 'consistently the least popular option', 'considerably lower figure', and 'recorded the lowest percentage' show a good command of academic language. The vocabulary is natural and appropriate for a report on statistical data. While the range is solid, incorporating a few more sophisticated synonyms or varied collocations related to data trends (e.g., 'a marginal difference' or 'a significant disparity') could elevate the response further. Overall, the lexical control is strong and supports clear communication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.5

The response displays a good variety of complex sentence structures, such as the use of participial phrases ('closely followed by...') and subordinate clauses ('while Adelaide recorded...'). The grammar is highly accurate, with very few errors. Punctuation is used correctly to manage lists and clauses. The majority of your sentences are error-free, and the control over tense and subject-verb agreement is consistent. The writing is fluent and professional, demonstrating a high level of grammatical competence that allows for clear and precise expression of the data.
