Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response is incomplete as it cuts off mid-sentence, failing to address the final category (fresh coffee) and the comparison of instant coffee. While the introduction and the first body paragraph provide a clear overview and some data reporting, the failure to complete the task significantly impacts the score. The overview identifies some main features, but the lack of a full report on all data points prevents a higher band. To improve, ensure all categories mentioned in the prompt are covered and that the response is brought to a logical conclusion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The response uses some cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'To begin with', and 'Moreover' to organize ideas. However, the abrupt ending disrupts the logical flow and cohesion of the text. Paragraphing is present, but the structure is undermined by the incomplete nature of the final paragraph. To improve, focus on planning the structure of the response before writing to ensure that all data points are covered within the available time, allowing for a complete and cohesive summary.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, using terms like 'proportion', 'illustrates', and 'habits'. However, there is some repetition of phrases such as 'proportion of people who went to a cafe'. There are also minor errors in collocation, such as 'brought fresh coffee' instead of 'bought'. The range is somewhat limited, and the vocabulary does not demonstrate the flexibility required for higher bands. Expanding the range of synonyms and ensuring accurate word choice will help improve this score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('Brisbane and Adelaide has the least proportion') and missing articles ('survey about', 'in last 4 weeks'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be noticeable. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy, particularly with articles and subject-verb agreement, and attempt to vary sentence structures more consistently.
